Why this hymnal is different
This book was created to bridge that gap
Many churches rely on volunteer musicians to accompany congregational singing. While traditional hymnals are wonderful resources, they can sometimes feel overwhelming to pianists with limited training or experience.
A single melody line
A single-note melody in the right hand.
Full hymn lyrics
Every hymn includes the full lyrics.
Chord symbols on their own staff
Simple chord symbols on their own staff. No bass clef reading required!
No key signatures
Any sharps or flats appear directly in the music where they occur. This makes the hymns easier to read for pianists who are still becoming comfortable with different key signatures.
A look inside
Open fifths in the left hand
Each hymn has been arranged to provide a simple, accessible accompaniment while still supporting congregational singing. The goal is not to create a performance arrangement, but to help pianists confidently accompany familiar hymns in worship.
Rather than playing full chords, this book uses open fifths, which are played using the root note and the fifth of the chord. Open fifths create a full, supportive sound while requiring fewer notes and less hand movement than traditional chords.
- C chord = C and G (finger 5 on C, finger 1 on G)
- G chord = G and D
- D chord = D and A
- F chord = F and C
